****I don't know how to do a "sticky post" so I am just going to keep changing the date for a few more days because hubby and I really want people to be aware of this movie. If you are looking for new post please scroll down.****
I am sure this post is going to get hits by people that I never really intended this for, but if it helps others see the truth, or helps even one person to realize this film is not appropriate, then that is okay.
This first part is taken from an email from NBBC:
"THE GOLDEN COMPASS, a new movie targeted at children, will be released December 7, 2007. This movie is based on a the first book of a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "My books are about killing God."
The movie is a watered down version of the first book and is designed to be very attractive in the hope unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the the movie and that the children will want the books for Christmas.
The movie has a well known cast, including Nicole Kidman, Kevin Bacon, and Sam Elliott. It will probably be advertised extensively, so it is crucial that we get the word out to warn parents to avoid this movie."
I first learned of this movie last week through a friend who had gotten this email, while at her house (yes she is the one I stole the Internet from) I got on the Golden Compass' website and found very alarming things.
Militant atheist Philip Pullman is a very well known author who is known by his dark novels. Each one is darker than the others. Some might say that Harry Potter was the same way, but Philip Pullman is considered to be much darker by his third book, then that of J.K. Rowling in her last and final Harry Potter novel.
One of the "activities" that the website offers is very similar to a o*ija board, in the sense that they want you to think of a question in your mind and then you use their "alethiometer" and it will answer your question. On the website it also states that everyone is born with several da*emons in them, and as you age it morphs into only one, there (on the website) you are able to create your own d*e*on.
From Random Houses website about the author they offer a Q & A session where the question is "What Stance Do the Books Take?" Response: ..........."So, for instance, the book depicts the Temptation and Fall not as the source of all woe and misery, as in traditional Christian teaching, but as the beginning of true human freedom something to be celebrated, not lamented. And the Tempter is not an evil being like Satan, prompted by malice and envy, but a figure who might stand for Wisdom"................
I am pretty sure Satan did not stand for Wisdom by any stretch of the imagination.
What is our world coming to when this type of movie would be deemed appropriate?
Why are we as Christians going to stand by and allow this to happen?
We as Christians must begin praying for those who will proceed to see this movie regardless of content, and that God may convict their heart, and protect the innocent children who will be subjected to this type of evil.
